From making music as a gift for a girlfriend, Passion Pit are now selling records to tens of thousand people. The Michael Angelakos-fronted band are poised to bow at one of the top-10 spots on Billboard 200 with their second studio album "Gossamer".
Receiving positive reviews from most music critics, the July 20 release has been projected to sell around 25,000 to 30,000 copies in its first week on sales. Its first single "Take a Walk", meanwhile, has been earlier embraced by fans, and peaked at No. 20 on Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
Passion Pit first spread their music commercially by debuting EP "Chunk of Change" in 2008. It consisted of four songs which Angelakos wrote as a belated Valentine's Day gift to his then-girlfriend, in addition to two tracks "Sleepyhead" and "Better Things".
Following the wide exposure received by their songs, the four-piece group were chosen as Best New Local Act in 2008 in the WFNX/Boston Phoenix best music poll.
As a follow-up to the EP, in 2009 they released their first full studio installment "Manners" which landed on No. 51 of Billboard 200. Getting critical acclaims, the record included singles "The Reeling" and "Little Secrets", which entered the top 50 of Alternative Songs chart.
