Fans of Ridley Scott's ground-breaking mythology "Prometheus" should be happy now because 20th Century Fox has announced that the space thriller film will get a sequel. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the studio confirms that the sequel is projected to be released Stateside sometime in 2014 or 2015.

It is said that director Scott and Fox are actively pushing ahead with the untitled Prometheus sequel and have sealed Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace to return to the cast ensemble. However, the follow-up film must find a new writer since Damon Lindelof will not come back to provide the script.

"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," Emma Watts, Fox president of production, says of the sequel to the $130 million-budgeted sci-fier, which has grossed a solid $303 million globally since it was released on June 8.

Aside from the "Prometheus" sequel, THR breaks the news that some other studios are developing follow-ups to their hit movies. Universal Pictures is gearing up to make a sequel to "Ted" and considering to make a follow-up to "The Bourne Legacy" if the upcoming actioner performs well on box office.

Universal reportedly also sticks to its plan to make a "Snow White and the Huntsman" sequel despite the scandal involving its director Rupert Sanders and lead actress Kristen Stewart.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures has projected "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel for a May 2014 release though it's still unclear whether Marc Webb will return to the directing seat or not. The studio also plans to prolong the "Man in Black" franchise, as well as make a sequel to "Total Recall" if the film opens well on August 3.
