Though claiming the top prize, Riri couldn't outnumber the amount of awards taken home by boyband One Direction. The fivesome successfully grabbed three awards, including Best Share-Worthy Video and Best Pop Video all for their song "What Makes You Beautiful". They also snatched the Best New Artist award, defeating Carly Rae Jepsen, Fun., The Wanted and Frank Ocean.
"To win one Moonman is ridiculous, to win two is crazy, and to perform is just absolutely insane," one of 1D's members Harry Styles said when receiving the group's second Moonman from Wiz Khalifa and Ke$ha.
Other multiple winners were Chris Brown and M.I.A. with two Moonmen apiece. Breezy collected the Best Male Video and Best Choreography awards thanks to his single "Turn Up the Music", while the English raptress bagged Best Direction and Best Cinematography gongs for her song "Bad Girls".
Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato and Coldplay were also included in the winner list with one prize each. While the Harajuku Barbie won the Best Female Video, the former Disney darling and the Chris Martin-fronted band took home Best Video With a Message and Best Rock Video trophies respectively.
The 29th annual MTV VMAs has been wrapped on Thursday evening, September 6 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The star-studded show, which was hosted by Kevin Hart, was made merry by performances from the likes of Alicia Keys & Nicki Minaj, Green Day, 2 Chainz, Rihanna and Taylor Swift.
In addition to the musical performance, the show unveiled a final trailer for much awaited "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part II" with Robert Pattinson on hand to introduce the footage. Other celebrities spotted attending the event included Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson, Amber Rose, Lil Wayne, Pink and Rita Ora.
