Among the 25 countries where it played this weekend, the film had its most remarkable opening in Bond's home country, the U.K., where it garnered $32.4 million in ticket sales. According to the film's international distributor Sony, this figure gives "Skyfall" the second highest opening weekend sales in history falling behind the 3D-enhanced "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II".
"This picture has such an incredible DNA and to be so loved by critics and audiences alike will push it be one of the biggest, if not biggest, Bond pics," Sony worldwide president of distribution Rory Bruer claimed.
"Skyfall" also reeled in the dollars in various European countries including France where it sold $9.1 million, in Russia where sales hit $8.6 million, and in Belgium where it got $1.4 million. The film also claimed victory in South Korea by taking in 49% of the market with $6.1 million, and set opening records for Bond films in Brazil where it got $3.2 million.
With the stellar international premiere of this Sam Mendes-directed spy film, "Skyfall" promises to have an equally impressive run in the U.S. box office. Another top-grossing Bond flick starring Craig was "Casino Royale" (2006), which is still the top-grossing Bond film to date, earning $599 million worldwide, including $432 million internationally.
