After an episode without elimination, "So You Think You Can Dance" brought four of its contestants to meet the chopping block on Wednesday, July 18. Before the results were announced, however, the Top 20 dancers performed once again in a pair.

Lindsay and Cole did a hip-hop routine to Lady GaGa's "Teeth". Nigel Lythgoe praised Cole's "good characterization," but Lindsay was deemed "a little immature" in her role. Amelia and Will showed up next to do a contemporary number. Guest judge Adam Shankman gave a standing ovation, while Nigel called them "brilliant dancers."

The third dance of the night was an Argentine Tango performed by Amber and Nick. Adam said the dance was hot, and Nigel gushed that Nick was "really, really strong." Judge Mary Murphy later declared Audrey and Matthew's jazz routine as her "favorite routine tonight."

Janelle and Dareian danced a lyrical hip-hop to The Temptations' "My Girl". Mary said it was "sweet, light and airy," with Adam adding that Dareian was "more successful in character" than Janelle. Janaya and Brandon danced a Broadway style number, which was deemed "the most entertaining of the night" by Mary.

Cyrus and Eliana earned praises after dancing a jive, though they were unfamiliar with the style. Adam said Cyrus got through it, while Maya stated that Eliana's star was shining. Alexa and Daniel didn't show enough emotion when dancing a contemporary dance. Mary thought they were "incredible dancers," but "the connection between yourselves and us was lost emotionally."

On the other hand, Tiffany and George had no difficulty in showing connection when dancing a foxtrot to "I Want to Be Loved by You" by Sinead O'Connor. Mary commented, "Your top line was just fantastic." The last pair, Chehon and Witney, performed a Bollywood dance and the judges liked it. Adam thought Witney's "stops were perfect", adding that "it was the first time I saw joy" on Chehon's face.

A moment later, host Cat Deeley announced that Janaya, Alexa, Witney, Nick, Daniel and Chehon got the lowest six votes. After some deliberations, the judges opted to keep Witney and Chehon on the show, which meant the other four dancers were sent packing.
