BBC America is set to unleash its first original scripted series "Copper" later this summer and teases viewers by sharing a new extended trailer. The video highlights Kevin Corcoran, an Irish-American former boxer turned cop, who refuses to back down from bringing justice in a corrupt society.
In 1864's New York City, Corcoran is the finest cop. He returns from the Civil War to find his wife missing and his daughter dead. Now working in the city's notorious Five Points neighborhood, he is struggling to maintain his moral compass in a turbulent world while on an emotional and relentless quest to learn the truth about what happened to his family.
Aiding Corcoran are his wartime friends: the wayward son of a wealthy industrialist, and a talented African-American doctor. The three men share a secret from their experience in battle that links their lives forever.
Tom Weston-Jones takes the lead role, joined by the likes of Kyle Schmid, Anastasia Griffith, Franka Potente, Kevin Ryan and Tessa Thompson. Emmy-winning showrunner Tom Fontana and Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson executive produce the show along with Christina Wayne and Will Rokos.
At the TCA summer press tour, Fontana called the period drama "the anti-'CSI'." He explained, "It's all about detectives using their minds and assessing situations... It's fun to have to be able to do detective stuff without relying on current information. I love the fact that we're doing a series where there's no cell phones."
"Copper" will premiere Sunday, August 19 at 10 P.M. on BBC America.
