Fox News lands in hot water after showing the suicide of a man on live TV. The network inadvertently aired the horrid moment when broadcasting the live coverage of a car chase in Arizona on Friday, September 28.

In the footage, the man was seen leaving his car and running across a field before pulling out a gun and seemingly shooting himself in the head. Anchor Shepard Smith was heard shouting to the control room, "Get off it! Get off it!"

When the show returned from commercial break, Smith explained the network applied five-second time-delay that should have prevented the airing of such inappropriate footage for TV audience. Admitting their mistake, he told viewers, "We really messed up. And we're all very sorry. That didn't belong on TV."

"We took every precaution we knew had to take to keep that from being on TV. And I personally apologize to you that that happened," he added. "That was wrong. And that won't happen again on my watch. And I'm sorry."

Michael Clemente, Executive Vice President for Fox News, later issued a statement to address the blunder. "We took every precaution to avoid any such live incident by putting the helicopter pictures on a five second delay. Unfortunately, this mistake was the result of a severe human error and we apologize for what viewers ultimately saw on the screen," he wrote.
