A Shakespeare drama is going to get a small-screen treatment. FOX has acquired "America's Son", which is dubbed a "sophisticated contemporary spin" on "Hamlet" and is set in present-day Washington D.C.

Coming from scribe Paul Redford, it is described by Deadline as "part juicy soap, part paranoid political thriller." The story follows the renegade son of a beloved presidential candidate, who was recently deceased. The son discovers his father's death wasn't an accident and is determined to expose the truth and avenge the murder.

The project has received a script commitment with penalty. Redford, who had an experience working on political drama when he joined the writing team of "The West Wing" for five seasons, will executive produce it with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
