Shaun White was charged with public intoxication and vandalism after being arrested in Nashville on September 16 morning. He's accused of drunkenly ringing a fire alarm at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, forcing all guests to be evacuated while there's nothing to be alarmed about. He also allegedly destroyed a hotel phone.
Police was called to the scene, but the two-time Olympic gold medalist tried to leave before the cops arrived. The snowboarder, 26, kicked a hotel guest who prevented the driver from leaving before he fled on foot. The guest chased him and they collided when he turned around, causing the athlete to fall back and hit his head against a fence.
According to a police officer, White "appeared to be extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol." He was taken to Baptist Hospital following his fall and was released on late Monday afternoon on his own recognizance. He had a black eye in a mugshot taken by police and refused to sign misdemeanor citations.
His court date was scheduled for October 10. His representative had no immediate comment regarding the matter. A Loews spokesperson, meanwhile, said they "are committed to ensuring guest safety and confidentiality at all times. As this incident is a police matter, we are deferring all comments to the police."
