Report: Michael Bay Might Direct 'Transformers 5' After All

Though he has confirmed his return to the directing seat of "Transformers 4", Michael Bay once hinted that "T4" would be his last work in the successful autobot war film franchise. However, latest update suggested that Bay might still reprise his directing role once again as producer Steven Spielberg reportedly planned a possible fifth "Transformers" film.

The report was sparked by actor Glenn Morshower, who appeared as General Morshower in the last three "Transformers" films, when discussing the franchise at the Con X KC in Kansas City, Missouri. He revealed to Examiner that Bay and Spielberg were not only working on "Transformers 4", but more than likely "Transformers 5" as well.

"After I did the opening ceremonies for the ride [at Universal Studios Hollywood], Steven Spielberg walked up to me and chatted and said 'You know we've got you set to do the fourth one and probably the fifth one on the heels of that," he dished. "So, I guess in December we are on our way to making 4 and 5."

The report added fuel to last year's rumors suggesting that there might be fourth and fifth "Transformers" films which would be shot back-to-back to save the budget. At that time, Bay declared that he wouldn't be involved in the projects despite the big success of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". He, however, signed on to "T4" earlier this year, confirming that the upcoming movie would include a new cast ensemble.

"I thought I was done. Then the ride came out and the two-and-a-half-hour lines. And then you're thinking, Oh my God, someone's going to take this over," Bay recently said of why he finally decided to return to the fourth film. "And you start doing a lot of soul-searching. Like, OK, I'm about to do a little movie, 'Pain and Gain'... and the studio says they want to restart the franchise."

"Transformers 4" is scheduled to open in the U.S. on June 27, 2014.
