'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Allegedly Will Feature the Sentinels

It's been a while fans haven't heard anything about the progress of Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" project. Offering some updates on the "X-Men: First Class" sequel production, Fox's new Marvel Property Creative Consultant Mark Millar took time to discuss what to expect from the film while revealing a spoilerish detail in the process.

Millar hinted at the possibility that the iconic giant robot Sentinels would be featured in the sequel. He spilled the beans during an interview with SFX magazine, in which he stated, "[Director Matthew] Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. It's X-Men meets The Terminator."

He added, "You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes - it's got everything in one film." With his description of the plot, it would be very likely that the movie would cost a lot. However, the comic artist insisted that it wasn't a big problem as saying, "Cost-wise it's going to go up, and ambitious-wise it's gone up. But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughan made 'Kick-Ass' for $28 million."

For those who are unfamiliar with Sentinels, they are mutant-hunting robots in the Marvel Universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, those robots are frequently presented as antagonists to the X-Men gang. The Sentinels, which are programmed to capture and kill mutants, are described as being three-stories height, can fly and detect mutants, and can also project energy blasts.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is slated for a July 18, 2014 U.S. release. The production is set to begin in January 2013 after its leading actress Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Mystique, finished the filming of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". The film will also bring back Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne and Nicholas Hoult.
