Mariah Carey Helps Nick Cannon Celebrate His Birthday

Mariah Carey refused to let her widely-reported feud between her and Nicki Minaj dampen her spirit to celebrate Nick Cannon's birthday. She uploaded an Instagram picture of her sitting on her husband's lap. "On to the party! Happy birthday @nickcannon!" she tweeted.

The 42-year-old mother of two also posted another picture that saw the "America's Got Talent" presenter sitting on a couch alone while holding a birthday hat on his head. "My hubby On his birthday fest!" so the new female judge of "American Idol" enthused.

Nick turned 32 on October 8. It looked like that the birthday celebration has kicked off since Saturday, October 6. He and Mariah were seen taking their adorable twins, Monroe and Moroccan, to enjoy a family outing at a theme park on the Santa Monica pier in Los Angeles.

Mariah was recently spotted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for "Idol" auditions with police escort. She reportedly added her bodyguards for extra security after fellow "Idol" judge Nicki dropped expletive rants on her. "I told them I'm not f**kin' putting up with her f**kin' highness over there," the femcee fired off.

Just a day after filming "American Idol" season 12, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were hit with rumor that they were fighting on the set. Speaking to reporters at a press conference in New York on Monday, September 17, the pop/soul diva squashed off the report.

"How are we gonna feud in two days? I think a feud takes a little longer," Mariah said, which was responded with a burst of laughter by other "Idol" judges, including Nicki herself. The wife of Nick Cannon added, "It's fun, it's music, it's singing, it's laughter."

The Young Money raptress, meanwhile, claimed "it's wonderful" to be on the show so far. Randy Jackson chimed in, "We're having fun, dude. We've been having a good time. There has been a lot of laughs."

If there's a tension, Ryan Seacrest jokingly said it's between him and the remaining original judge. "Randy will not share his mirror, and I've never seen that side of him before," the host enthused. "It's causing friction between you and I."

The alleged feud between Mariah and Nicki was first reported by TMZ. The site said the former interrupted the later many times when the Harajuku Barbie criticized contestants during the Sunday auditions, and the "Starships" hitmaker fought back each time. A source additionally gushed, "These girls just don't like each other."

Jennifer Lopez is allegedly not the only one who's on the brink of following Steven Tyler's footsteps. Latest report on "American Idol" shake-up says that Randy Jackson is also going to step down from his role as a judge, which he has tackled since the first season.

"[Show producers] think they need to freshen everything up now," a source tells Us Weekly about the producers' move. The musician/record producer, however, may still be part of the singing competition as the source adds, "And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role."

To fill the empty spot, the producers are reportedly "in serious talks" with Mariah Carey to have her as a new judge. Claiming that the "Obsessed" hitmaker is close to sign up for the reality series, the source gushes that "it's very close to being a done deal."

While Jackson's and Lopez's future on the show remains unclear, Tyler has officially announced that he wouldn't return to the upcoming thirteenth season. "After some long...hard...thoughts...I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit," he said in a statement, explaining that he would be next occupied with his project with Aerosmith.

In addition to Carey, other names who have been mentioned as possible new judges are Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, will.i.am and Stacy Ferguson, while Katy Perry has made it clear that she would not be able to take the job.

The 2012 BET Awards celebrated the life of Whitney Houston in a tribute segment for the "I Will Always Love You" hitmaker. Mariah Carey opened the segment by sharing her story about her relationship with the late singer.

Dressing in a glittery gown, the wife of Nick Cannon recalled, "The first time I heard Whitney's voice, I was mesmerized like the rest of the world." She later talked about their first meeting backstage at the Grammy Awards and how they became friends after working together on "When You Believe", the "Prince of Egypt" soundtrack that won an Oscar.

The "We Belong Together" songstress then revealed she last saw Whitney in London about a year ago. "I miss my friend, and I miss hearing her voice and laughter, but we'll always have the music," she said. She took a pause as she fought back tears before continuing, "We'll always have that voice we all fell in love with. She inspired us all."

Later, Monica showed up on stage to deliver a moving rendition of "I Love the Lord" and Brandy brought the audience on their feet with a rendition of Whitney's classics "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody".

Whitney's brother Gary Houston also sang before introducing their mother Cissy Houston, who belted out "Bridge Over Troubled Water". "This is for you, Nip," she said, referring to her daughter's nickname. Last but not least, Chaka Khan lightened the mood with an energetic performance of "I'm Every Woman".

At the BET Awards that was held Sunday, July 1 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z & Kanye West, as well as Chris Brown took home two prizes each. Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the ceremony featured Usher, Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz and Breezy among the other musical performers.

Rihanna’s latest single, “We Found Love” featuring Calvin Harris scores a second straight week atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
